Good weather for the survey but not too much to get excited about. 323 birds of 29 species with highlights including 5 Cormorant flying over, 2 Skylark, high count (13) of Robins, 6 Song Thrush, 3 Chiff Chaff and 25 Linnet. Survey a great deal easier when the birds are vocal!

1st summer visitor or is it?
Saturday 15 march 2014
Chiffchaff calling (I refuse to call it singing) this morning - little else of note and it is becoming more certain that the Water Rail has left - at least a week or two earlier than previous years.

Spring like
Friday 7 March 2014
So good to feel some warmth on your back! 6 Brimstones and a Small Tortoiseshell in Benson and another 2 Brimstones and a Tortoiseshell at Ewelme. First sign of frogspawn in the small pond at Ewelme. Sadly a pair of dead Mallards just inside the lower end of the beds. I suspect they were killed on the road and removed from the carriageway. If you are driving past the beds or indeed beside the brook between and through Benson slow down. The ducks have other things on their mind at the moment and it is easy for them to mistake the road for the stream at the moment.

Wednesday 5 March 2014
Celandine and Dandelion in bloom but same old birds. Bit more song and this Stock Dove making its presence known.
