First Dragon at Ewelme

Sunday 26 May 2013

More accurately a Damsel but that doesn't have the same impact as a headline - Oh, I don't know perhaps it does! Any way this Large Red Damselfly spotted during a butterfly transect survey. It seemed to be having trouble flying but perhaps not surprising when you see the size of its lunch it had just caught!

I also carried out my monthly Battle Farm bird survey early morning. 2489 birds of 34 species, the highlights being a "glowing" Yellow Wagtail on the sewage beds and a record 12 Stock Doves but the rest was a little disappointing with no Swifts or House Martins and only a single Whitethroat.

One that I can't count

Monday 20 May 2013

A couple of Guinee Fowl drifted close to the reserve - one white!

Species 937

Nothing to get excited about I'm afraid and probabl;y more incompetance than anything else that a Cardinal Beetle has not been recorded before.

Unfortunately this Hare was 50m outside the reserve on the airfield.

Butterfly Transect

Saturday 18 May 2013

Little of note on the bird front - though good to see Grey Wagtails using one of my nest boxes.

At long last the weather was conducive for a butterfly transect survey at Ewelme - conditions have been few and far between this year so far. Just 23 individuals of 5 species but better than a kick up the ....  Must ry and go through my devon holiday photos to see if any are worth uploading here - watch this space!
